Executive Vice-President Fitto in Sweden to discuss cohesion policy’s priorities

Executive Vice-President Raffaele Fitto will visit Sweden on 21-22 May to discuss the priorities of cohesion policy with national, regional, and local leaders. The visit will also cover the Commission's recent proposal to modernize and align cohesion policy with emerging priorities, like competitiveness and defense.

In Stockholm, the Executive Vice-President will meet with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, EU Affairs Minister Jessica Rosencrantz, and Rural Affairs Minister, Peter Kullgren, to discuss cohesion policy's current state-of-play, future direction, and strategic use of EU funds. Topics will also include the rule of law related to cohesion funding, and the bioeconomy's significance for the EU.

Executive Vice-President Fitto will also engage in a roundtable with the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions, visit the EU-funded Stockholm Exergi energy provider, and conduct another roundtable, together with Minister Kullgren, on the future of the EU bioeconomy at the Stora Enso Innovation Centre.
