Health Technology Assessment: Commission hosts an international conference on 2 July

On 2 July, the European Commission will host an international conference entitled “EU health technology assessment: Advent of a new era of collaboration”.

The hybrid conference will feature keynote speeches from Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, Sandra Gallina, Director-General of DG SANTE, Roisin Adams, Chair of the HTA Coordination Group and Ricardo Baptista Leite, CEO of HealthAI - The Global Agency for Responsible Artificial Intelligence in Health.

Panel discussions and breakout sessions will focus on:

  • The lessons learnt so far from the implementation of the HTA regulation;
  • National and international developments in the HTA field;
  • The involvement of patients and clinical experts in HTA;
  • Showcase of Horizon Europe-funded HTA research projects.

Registration for online participation at the HTA conference is still open and will close on 26 June.

In addition, the next meeting of the Member State Coordination Group will be held on 30 June, and on 1 July the HTA Stakeholder Network will meet.

The three events mark a pivotal milestone for the implementation of the EU HTA regulation, applicable since January 2025. Joint clinical assessments and joint scientific consultations on innovative cancer therapies and advance therapy medicinal products have already started, and joint work will start soon on medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices. The HTA Coordination Group and the Stakeholder Network will have the opportunity to share the first reflections on the implementation of the regulation.
