Law no 22/2008, (Official Journal (OJ) no 92 1st Series, of 13th May 2008) - Law of the National Statistical System: It defines the general basis of the National Statistical System. The official statistics are produced with technical independence and considered as public good, observing the national and international quality standards, and meeting the users' needs in an efficient manner, preventing the providers of information to the statistical authorities from an excessive burden, by using increasingly the administrative data. All personal data collected by the statistical authorities for statistical purposes, are considered confidential, and legally protected. All people connected with the production of official statistics are obliged to professional secrecy. To break in confidentiality is considered a very serious administrative offence that implies criminal responsibility. |

Anonymization of responses: All individual information is collected in secure computer systems and by officers duly accredited. The minimum of individual information is collected. In the primary stage of information processing, all the variables that allow to directly identify respondents (exact name and address) are excluded from the system. |

Comparative studies between the resulting data from the "demand side" (domestic trips with overnight stays in hotels) with the “supply side" data (number of overnight stays and guests residing in Portugal) were done. These studies show that although the volumes obtained are somewhat different, trends in both series are quite similar. |

The need for revisions reflects the commitment established between disseminate the most updated statistical information and ensure high standards of accuracy and precision. The introduction of methodological improvements, the update of statistical conventions, the introduction of the most up to date information base, the introduction of additional information, the detection of random errors associated with inaccuracies in the use of information sources or the processing of data, can give rise to the revision of already published results. |
