7.1. Confidentiality - policy
Regulation (EC) No 223/2009 on European statistics (recital 24 and Article 20(4)) of 11 March 2009 (OJ L 87, p. 164), stipulates the need to establish common principles and guidelines ensuring the confidentiality of data used for the production of European statistics and the access to these confidential data with due account for technical developments and the requirements of users in a democratic society. For quality reasons, data are not disseminated at a level of detail where problem of statistical confidentiality could arise. |
7.2. Confidentiality - data treatment
The collection of micro-data is considered as confidential. For this reason micro-data is stored and processed in a secure environment. After the aggregation process, tourism demand data is in principle not confidential. However, to avoid the publication of figures which are statistically unreliable, Eurostat applies the following basis guidelines when disseminating aggregate tables:
8.1. Release calendar | |||

8.3. Release policy - user access
In line with the Community legal framework and the European Statistics Code of Practice Eurostat disseminates European statistics on Eurostat's website (see item 10 - 'Accessibility and clarity') respecting professional independence and in an objective, professional and transparent manner in which all users are treated equitably. The detailed arrangements are governed by the Eurostat protocol on impartial access to Eurostat data for users. French national institute respects the General Data Protection Regulation. |

10.6. Documentation on methodology
Insee is responsible for the LTS survey in 2020 from the Direction Generale des Entreprises (DGE). The nonresponse correcting methods were reviewed to improve the estimation of overnight stays and trips. This improvement raises the levels of the estimates compared with the statistics previously published by the DGE, but does not change the analyses of changes. Documentation is on the INSEE website. 10.7. Quality management - documentation
National quality reports have been transmitted to Eurostat. They are not publicly available, but some information can be obtained on request. |
11.1. Quality assurance
According to Regulation (EU) 692/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council (Article 6 (4)3), every year, Member States shall provide the Commission with a report on the quality of the data. The report shall be provided within 9 months after the end of the reference year. Gross files are checked every month. |

12.1. Relevance - User Needs
12.2. Relevance - User Satisfaction

12.3. Completeness | ||||
13.1. Accuracy - overall
Recent work on the survey's weighting system, particularly the non-response adjustment, improves the accuracy of the results. The main possible sources of error stem from the fact that the sample is a client panel that is not random. Other possible sources of error include higher non-response for certain population categories such as youth and high-income earners, the memory effect and under-reporting of business trips. These are partly corrected by the weights (using auxiliary information or other statistical techniques). Non-response can be high for expenditure data. In this case, the data are imputed by the provider. |

14.1. Timeliness | ||||||

14.2. Punctuality | ||||||
15.1. Comparability - geographical
See concepts 3.7 (in case of deviations for geographical coverage) and 19. Because of methological changes, there's a break in series in 2020. |
15.2. Comparability - over time
15.3. Coherence - cross domain
Data cannot be compared with other accommodation statistics (neither platforms statistics nor supply survey). |
15.4. Coherence - internal
The quality checks and validation rules include checks on the internal coherence across tables and across reference periods. |
Cost and burden are not systematically collected. Article 8 of Regulation (EU) 692/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council specifies that by 12 August 2016, and every 5 years thereafter, the Commission shall submit an evaluation report to the European Parliament and to the Council on tourism statistics, in particular on their relevance and the burden on business. |
17.1. Data revision - policy
No revision policy |
17.2. Data revision - practice
Tourism data are subject to revisions. Major changes in EU-methodology are the result of legislation, and therefore announced in the Official Journal of the European Communities. |
